Objective

Students will write sentences that start with the same phrase but include different coordinating conjunctions. Each conjunction will change how they complete their sentence.

Inspired by a text from Mike Saltz.

Steps

  1. Students practice with "and" and "yet".
  2. Next, it's "for", "but", and "so."
  3. We conclude with "or" and "nor" - which will probably require a slightly different opening phrase.
