Objective

Learn about why highly-capable students might think they're not very good at all.

When students do easy work and teachers tell them that they're "so smart," these students will equate "smart" and "easy." For many students, this continues for years. They are told "you're smart" when they do well on easy tasks. Then, eventually, when they hit their first wall, they wonder, "Did I trick everyone? Am I not actually smart?" They feel like impostors. And then they begin to hide, avoiding risks and picking easy paths in order to appear "smart."
