Creating A Classroom Motto

Objective
In this inductive lesson, students begin by brainstorming specifics and then end by synthesizing all of that information into one sentence: their classroom motto.
This lesson uses an inductive model of instruction. You can apply this same framework to academic topics as well.
Steps
- As a whole group, students brainstorm specific examples of appropriate or expected classroom behavior.
- Then, in small groups, they group those specific examples into three to five groups and eventually label those groups with a one or two-word phrase.
- Finally, students use the labels of their groups to generate a sentence summing up the expectations for the year. This is your classroom motto!
