Five Examples of Origins

Some fascinating examples of origins that might interest your students and provide you with a great hook for a lesson:

• From 1826, the first photograph ever! And it only needed 8 hours of exposure time! The creator called the process “heliography” (bonus points for having students compare the meaning of “heliography” with “photography”).
• Expose kids to their many college options while exploring the origins of 25 school mascots.
• We’ve all seen those early bicycles with the huge front wheels, but first came dandy-horses: pedal-less bicycles you scoot with your feet!
• Apparently cave paintings were the original animations. Movement was created by the flickering of fire light. Awesome.
• And, just in time for Halloween, the original, frightening Ronald McDonald.
