Focus on moving slowly and allowing students to notice details and ask questions about the images. It's not about guessing or jumping to hypotheses! It's about wondering. (I recommend setting the Google Slides to *fullscreen* first!)

This is a bloom of phytoplankton off of the coast of Argentina. Plankton, or wanderers in Greek, are microscopic creatures that cannot propel themselves. So they float on currents in the ocean (or air). Phytoplankton are the plant versions (“phyto” means plant in Greek). Despite being so very tiny, they are enormously important for food webs as well as breathable air. These teensy plants produce about half of the world’s oxygen! Find the photo, and more information, at NASA’s Earth Observatory.
