How Many Will There Be? Pyramids

Objective

Students will use the patterns they find in the first three steps to predict the 50th step.

Steps

1. Students will look for patterns and predict how many squares there will be at step 10.
2. Next, they'll predict how many squares there will be at step 50!
3. I reveal the answer (2,550) and propose the challenge of adding the first 50 odd numbers. (Psst, you can square 50).
