Objective

Learn to run a lesson based on Richard Suchman's model of Inquiry Training.

To lead an Inquiry Training lesson:

  1. Present a puzzlement to your students (video, images, text, etc). This must perplex students.
  2. Students ask yes/no questions to try to resolve the mystery.
  3. Eventually, you ask for hypotheses.
  4. You confirm the correct hypothesis.
  5. I like to debrief the yes/no questions and discuss how we could get even better at asking questions next time.

This should put students into a state of curiosity about your next lesson or unit.
